Tokyo, Feb 1, 2008 (Jiji Press) - Sales of new vehicles in Japan, excluding minivehicles, rose 3.7 pct from a year before to 241,629 units in January, the Japan Automobile Dealers Association said Friday.
Passenger car sales were up 6.4 pct at 213,857 units. Sales of cars with engine displacement of over 2,000 c.c. rose 15.1 pct to 98,096 units, while those of smaller cars leveled off to 115,761 units.
Truck sales were down 14.5 pct at 26,602 units, while bus sales were up 16.1 pct at 1,170 units.
Separately, the Japan Mini Vehicles Association said sales of new minivehicles with engine displacement of up to 660 c.c., dropped 2.4 pct to 134,991 units in January, the 10th straight decrease.
